Alabama State Wins 2011 SWAC Tournament

Alabama State defeated Grambling State by a 65-48 final in the title game of the 2011 SWAC Tournament.

Tramyne Moorer was named Tournament MVP.

Joining Moore on the All-Tournament Team was teammate Kenderek Washington, Donald Qualls (Grambling State), Grant Maxey (Jackson State) and Harrison Smith (Texas Southern).

Ohio State, Kansas, Pitt, Duke Take Top Seeds In 2011 Tourney

Ohio State is the No. 1 overall seed in the 2011 NCAA Tournament and will be placed in the East Region.

Joining the Buckeyes No. 1 seeds is Kansas in the Midwest, Pittsburgh in the Southeast and Duke in the West.

Pitt is the only No. 1 seed to not win their conference tournament, losing to eventual champion Connecticut in the quarterfinals.

San Diego State, North Carolina, Notre Dame and Florida are the No. 2 seeds, while Syracuse, Purdue, Connecticut and BYU are the No. 3 seeds. Kentucky, Louisville, Texas and Wisconsin are the No. 4 seeds.

Kansas and Duke were also No. 1 seeds in the 2010 NCAA Tournament, while Ohio State was a No. 2 and Pitt was a No. 3.

The Final Four will be held in Houston on April 2nd and 4th.

SWAC Announces 10-11 Season Awards

Travele Jones of Texas Southern has been named Player of the Year for the Southwestern Athletic Conference.

Chris Duncan (Alabama State) received Defensive POY honors, while Lawrence Johnson-Danner (Texas Southern) won Freshman of the Year.

Joining Jones on the SWAC First Team All-Conference are teammate Kevin Halloway, Paul Crosby and D'Angelo Jackson (Mississippi Valley State) and Grant Maxey (Jackson State).

Second Team All-Conference honors went to Casey Cantey and Cornelius Hester (Alabama A&M), Jenirro Bush (Jackson State) and Brandon Webb (Prairie View A&M).
